Our Grant Cycles and Funding Priorities

Our grant programs provide community-based services with a sustainable funding source that is essential to providing consistent, reliable, and high quality services to children throughout the state.

Since our inception in 1997, over $8 million has been awarded to communities throughout Nebraska to support services that address community needs in the areas of early childhood, preventing child abuse and the need for entry into the child welfare system, promoting school success/preventing truancy, and helping at-risk youth transition to adulthood.

Our grant programs are evaluated on an annual basis by the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Through those evaluations, we are able to understand how our strategic investments help us achieve our ultimate outcomes. Click here to view our most recent evaluation.

Nebraska Children has two granting cycles:
- January through December (announced in the fall)
- July through June (announced in the spring)

In 2008, NCFF is only accepting requests from continuation grantees. New requests for proposals will be accepted in the spring of 2009.

Grant funding is focused on these priorities:
- Home visitation programs for new parents
- Early childhood initiatives
- Substance abuse prevention in adolescents through youth development activities
- Child abuse prevention
- Programs for families at risk of entering the child welfare system

Past grant funding has included: home visitation services for new parents, parent education and support programs, after-school programs, mentoring services, respite care for parents of children with disabilities, and child abuse prevention.
